In NZ, scrapped vehicles are processed as follows: fluids (oil, coolant, brake fluid, refrigerant) are drained and disposed of per NZ EPA requirements; the battery is removed and recycled; usable parts are catalogued and sold into the NZ used-parts market; remaining steel and non-ferrous metals are shredded, sorted, and recycled. The vehicle is deregistered from the NZTA Motor Vehicle Register on the day of collection.
